Half Rupee, East India Company, Madras Presidency
Silver Half Rupee coins minted by the East India Company in the name of Mughal emperor Alamgir II (1754-1759). The coins were minted long after, in 1817 and 1823. There are two types of coins, those minted in 1817 - with the closed lotus mint mark, and those minted in 1823, with a rose as mint mark. While the mint name on the coins in Arcot, the two varieties were minted in Madras and Calcutta respectively.
