1/2 Rupee, 1939, George VI, Type 1/Young Head

  • Rs. 800.00

Half rupee silver coin of British India, minted in 1939, in the name of George VI. This was the last year this value was minted in full silver (0.917) - 1940 onward, the coins were only half silver. As a result, most of the 'full silver' coins quickly went out of circulation. These are scarce compared to half rupees from the subsequent years (1940-45).

These coins are called 'young head' or Type I. The most notable difference between the two types is the length of the trefoils in the crown - highlighted in the third picture.
