  • Rs. 1,700.00

1 Baht banknote of Thailand, printed in 1946 - featuring Rama VIII (reign 1935-1946). These notes are also known as posthumous issue, because by the time they were printed and brought to circulation, King Rama VIII alias Ananda Mahidol, had been murdered. The obverse of the note features a bust of the King on the left side. Ananda Mahidol became the King of Thailand in 1935, at the age of 9-years, after the abdication of his uncle, Rama VII. The young prince spent most of his life in Switzerland, and returned to Thailand in December 1945 - and was murdered six months later. These notes were printed in the US, as an emergency issue just after the end of World War II - when counterfeiting was common.

The top-left of the note features Garuda, while the bottom right features the elephant Airavat. The reverse features the constitution of Thailand, kept on a two-tier tray.

Size: 116 mm* 66mm
