1 Piastre banknote of French Indo-China - which included Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, along with a small part of China. The obverse features a young local woman in a traditional costume, with the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang in the background. Minh Mang was a Vietnamese king of early 19th century, known for his opposition to the French. The reverse features a young peasant with Vietnamese hat carrying a yoke with baskets of coconuts, and water buffaloes in the background. The watermark features Mercury, the Roman God of commerce, with wings on his head.
