1 Rufiyaa banknote of Maldives, printed in 1960. The obverse features two windows - one has a palm tree and a fishing boat, while the other features a square rigged fishing boat. The reverse features a 2-storey building that served as the custom house of the country. Maldives printed its first banknotes in 1948 - prior to this, it used the Ceylonese rupee for trade. These notes were printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company of UK.
Maldives is one of the smallest countries in the world by land-mass and population - in 1960, the population of the archipelago was less than 1 lakh. These notes were printed in relatively small quantities and are rare.
