1 Escudo coin of Mozambique, part of the Portuguese empire. The escudo was the currency of Portugal from 1911 upto 1999 - when it was replaced by the Euro. During this period, a number of Portuguese colonies (including Goa/India, Mozambique and Angola) adopted the escudo as their currency, with an exchange rate of 1:1 with the Portuguese escudo.
