Copper 1/4 Karshapana of the Shunga Empire (185 BC-75 BC). These coins were minted by the Shunga dynasty - which succeeded the Mauryan Empire. Pushyamitra Shunga was a general of the last Mauryan ruler, and succeeded the throne after overthrowing him in 185 BC. The Shunga dynasty was a Brahmin dynasty - the preceding Mauryas were Buddhists. The obverse of the coin features a hollow cross, a 3 arched hill and a tree inside a railing. The reverse shows an elephant and a swastika.
