1/4 Rupee, William IIII, 1835
Silver 1/4 rupee coin of William IIII, minted in 1835 by the East India Company. These were part of the first of the uniform coinage (for entire India) minted 1835 onwards. The 1/4 rupee coin, like others, remained unchanged in weight and silver content for over 100 years up to 1939. The 1/4 rupee coin of that period is much rarer compared to the 1 rupee coin, and costs more.
