1 Rupee, William IIII, 1835

High grade 1 Rupee silver coin minted in 1835, by the East India Company, featuring William IIII. Note the IIII written in Roman numerals - not 'IV'. This was the first uniform coinage Rupee issued all over India by the British. Read more about this here

Over the subsequent years, the name of the ruler and some basic design elements changed, but the weight and silver content remained unchanged till 1939.
