Half Crown, Queen Victoria, Old Head
Silver half crown (1/8 of a pound) coin of Great Britain, issued in the name of Queen Victoria. This was the last of a series of 3 coins - the obverse has the portrait of Queen Victoria - veiled and wearing a coronet, the so called 'old head'. The legend around her head in Latin reads 'Victoria by the Grace of God'. The reverse has the crowned, quartered shield of arms. The bottom right of Victoria's bust has the letters TB - initials of Thomas Brock - the engraver.
These coins are larger than the Indian silver rupee and have a slightly higher silver content (92.5%).
