Quarter Rupee, Edward VII, 1903-1910
Silver Quarter Rupee (1/4 rupee) of British India, minted in the name of Edward VII. These coins are 0.917 (91.7% silver) and were minted in Bombay and Calcutta mints. Obverse features the uncrowned head of King Edward, facing right. These coins were very different from the earlier rupee coins, which featured Empress Victoria in a regal robe and wearing a crown. The bare-headed portrait led some people to suspect that the coins did not carry the image of the king but some minor official.
