Satu Rupiah, Indonesia, 1961
Satu Rupiah (One Rupee) of Indonesia, printed in 1961. The obverse shows farmers working on a rice paddy, while the reverse shows various vegetables. Both the sides use guilloches and geometric security patterns - intricate, repetitive, and interlacing fine-line patterns commonly used in security printing to prevent counterfeiting.
These notes mark the beginning of a period of turbulence for Indonesia, which saw high inflation in the early 1960s (100% in 1961, 200% in 1962, and over 600% by 1965). This was caused by a centrally planned economy and high spending on military and infrastructure projects.
Size: 120 mm* 60 mm
