1 Anna, Sailana State, 1943
A block of four 1 Anna emergency issue coupons of Sailana Princely State, issued in 1943 during the Second World War. These are emergency issue coupons, printed during World War II as a substitute for lower denomination coinage - metal was in short supply during the war. While these coupons look like postage stamps, they are printed on thicker paper, and have serial numbers on the reverse - unlike a stamp. The obverse carries a portrait of Sir Dileep Singh, the ruler of Sailana, along with the name of the state and the denomination. Sailana was an 11-gun salute princely state in the Malwa region of Central India.
