1 Convertible Peso, Argentina, 1992-94

1 Peso (Convertible) of Argentina, introduced in 1992. This new peso replaced the earlier currency (Austral) at the rate of 1 Convertible Peso = 10,000 Austral. To fight hyperinflation, this currency was pegged to the US dollar at the rate of 1:1 - this peg lasted till the economic crisis of 2002, when Argentina defaulted on its external debts. However, Argentina continues to use the same currency to this day, without the dollar peg however. The exchange rate of the USD-Peso is 1:1,400 as of mid-2026.
