1 Dinar, Iraq, 1992 (Emergency Issue)
1 Dinar banknote of Iraq, printed in 1992 - during the crisis caused by the first Gulf War. The obverse of the note features an image of an ancient Iraqi gold dinar, while the reverse features Mustansiriyah Madrasah School in Baghdad, a madarsa named after an Abbasid Caliph.
Pre-1991, Iraqi banknotes were printed using Swiss made plates - which became inaccessible after Iraq invaded Kuwait and was hit by sanctions. These notes were emergency issues, and often features lower quality printing and paper. These notes have no watermark and carry basic security features, and are referred to as Saddam Dinars. The older, Swiss dinars, continued to circulate and traded at a premium to the new Saddam Dinars. With hyperinflation, these notes lost value quickly - and higher denominations including 10,000 dinars soon followed.
Size: 142 mm* 66mm
