1 dollar, Malaya, Japanese Occupation
1 dollar banknote issued by the Japanese occupation government of Malaya during World War II. Malaya, a British colony, was under Japanese occupation from 1942-45 - these notes were issued at the time. These notes were printed in massive numbers, and continue to be common today. The obverse features a simple legend in English, along with denomination, and features a breadfruit and a banana tree. The reverse has geometric patterns - an anticounterfeiting measure.
