1 Dong, South Vietnam, 1955

1 Dong banknote of South Vietnam - a country in Indo-China that existed from 1955-1975. South Vietnam was a part of the Western Bloc, and was subject to a popular insurgency backed by the communist North Vietnam. Despite French and later, American backing, South Vietnam was overrun by communist forces in 1975, marking the end of the country. The obverse of the note features a farmer threshing grain, while the reverse features a farmer in a paddy field. These notes were printed by the Security Banknote Company of the US.
