1 peso, Argentina, 1952-55
1 Peso banknote of Argentina, printed 1952-55 - commemorating the Declaration of Economic Independence (1947). This declaration was made by President Juan Peron, and included points such as reducing the dominance of foreign capital. The obverse of the note features a female figure representing justice holding a sword and scales - crucially, without a blindfold. The reverse features the Independence House, the building where Argentina's declaration of independence was signed.
Juan Peron was elected the President of Argentina in 1946, and was re-elected in 1951, and was eventually deposed via a coup/revolution in 1955. His ideology, termed Peronism, remains influential in Argentina to this day.
