Isle of Man is a Crown Dependency - it is a self-governing territory under the British Crown - thus, it is not a part of the United Kingdom or a British overseas possession. The ruler of UK is also the ruler of Isle of Man. The Isle of Man pound is pegged to the British Pound at a 1:1 ratio. 

The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coat of arms of Isle of Man - a three legged wheel - which signifies the island's resilience. The reverse features Tynwald Hill - a manmade mound signifying the island's independence.
