10 Centesimos, Chile, Overprinted on 100 Peso, 1960-63
10 Centesimos banknote of Chile, overprinted on an older 100 Peso banknote when the country redenominated its currency from Peso to Escudo at a rate of 1000 pesos = 1 escudo. The obverse of the note carries a portrait of Arturo Prat - a Chilean naval hero who died during the Pacific War (1879-1884) - and was fought between Chile and Bolivia. Bolivia lost its entire Pacific coast as a result of the war, and became a landlocked country.
