100 Riyals, Iran, 1976, 50 Years of Pahlavi Dynasty
100 Riyal banknote of Iran, issued in 1976, during the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. He was the second and the last ruler of the Pahlavi dynasty, which ruled Iran from 1925-1979, and was also the last King of Iran, replaced by the present Islamic government. The obverse features an image of Reza Shah Pahlavi (1925-1941) and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (1941-79) - the two rulers of the dynasty. Reza Shah Pahlavi was a military officer who commanded the Persian Cossack Brigade - a cavalry unit modelled on Russian Cossacks and originally officered by Russians. He seized power in 1921, and deposed the last ruler of the preceding Qajar dynasty in 1925. In 1941, he was forced to abdicate in favor of his son - Mohammad Reza Pahlavi - as Britain and Russia were both concerned with his German sympathies. The reverse features the Persian crown, surrounded by 50 suns.
