100 Yen, Japan, 1954-74

100 Yen banknote of Japan, printed from 1953-74. The obverse features the Japanese politician Taisuke Itagaki - an important figure during Meiji restoration, and in bringing about democratic reforms in Japan. The reverse features the Japanese Diet (Parliament) building. This note was a part of series-B currency issued from 1950-53 - replacing the older series-A banknotes (introduced in 1946) to deal with post-war hyperinflation. While these notes were withdrawn in 1974, they continue to remain legal tender.
