Iran 1 million rials, 100 toman (2026)

1 million rial or 100 toman banknote of Iran, issued in July 2026. This banknote was issued to commemorate the Minab school tragedy - when a missile fired by the U.S. in the early hours of the 2026 US-Iran war hit a school and killed nearly 150 students and teachers. The obverse of the banknote shows a shrine in the city of Qom, while the reverse shows the Persian Gulf, Straits of Hormuz, and carries an image of empty desks and a blackboard.

These notes carry the last 4 zeros of 1,000,000 rial in a different shade - an attempt to move to a new currency - the toman, which equals 10,000 rials. Iran has suffered from high inflation for the past several years, making its currency near worthless.
