Half silver 1 rupee coin of Portuguese India minted in 1947. The silver content was cut down from 0.917 (91.7%) earlier to 50% - matching the reduced silver content in British Indian coins. This was the last issue of silver coins of Portuguese India.

SYMBOLS ON THE COINS

The reverse of the coin has the words 'Republica Portuguesa' - Portugal became a Republic in 1911. The large cross on this side is the Maltese cross. The shield inside this cross is the coat of arms of Portugal, adopted in 1911. 

The obverse of the coin has the value - 1 Rupia, and the words 'Estado da India' - meaning Portuguese India. The shield on this side - divided into two and surmounted by 5 towers on top, was the coat of arms of Portuguese India.
