1 Tanga, Indo-Portuguese, 1947
Bronze 1 tanga Indo-Portuguese coin, for use in Goa, Daman & Diu, minted in 1947. The tanga was equivalent to 1 anna, or 1/16 of a rupia. The obverse carries the coat of arms of Goa - the five shields on Portuguese coat of arms, waves representing the sea/overseas colonies, and tower/fort representing Goa. The reverse carries the denomination. These coins were minted in Lisbon. Not to be confused with the 1952 tanga, which was smaller - check picture 5.
