1/2 Rupee, Udaipur, Old (Swarupshahi) – tezbid

1/2 Rupee, Udaipur, Old (Swarupshahi)

  • Rs. 1,200.00

Silver rupee of Udaipur/Mewar Princely State, minted by the successors of Maharana Pratap.

This coin is part of the Swarupshahi series, and was minted from 1858-1920 AD. This is a crude design, showing the bastions of the Chittorgarh Fort and the words 'Chitrakut/Udaipur' in devnagari script on the front. The reverse of the coin says 'Dosti London' - meaning friends of London, also in Devnagari. Unlike many of the other princely states, Udaipur did not carry the name of the British monarch, preferring to call themselves friends of Britain, rather than its vassals. This coin is about half the weight of the rupee (picture 3 for comparison)

This is a RARE coin, with a numista rarity score of 88. Read more here
