5 Rupees, Nepal (1979-1984)
Five Rupee banknote of Nepal, printed from 1979-1984. The obverse bears a portrait of King Birendra (1972-2001) on the left, the picture of Taleju Temple in Kathmandu in the middle, and the watermark window on the right. The Taleju Temple is the temple of Taleju Bhavani, the Goddess of the Malla dynasty, which ruled Kathmandu valley till 1779 - the Malla dynasty was killed and replaced by the Shah dynasty of the Gorkha Kingdom, which united Nepal into a single kingdom.
The reverse has an image of 2 yaks grazing with a mountain peak in the background. Subsequent 5 rupee notes of Nepal have kept variations of this image. These notes carry the signature of Kalyan Bikram Adhikari, who was the governor of the Central Bank of Nepal in the 1980s.
