1 paisa cash coupons of Mengani (or Mengni) State, printed in 1940s during the Second World War. This is a uniface note with a cow in the center, a scroll underneath with English text, and surrounded by Gujarati text. The reverse is blank.

These coupons/notes were substitute for the 1 paisa (1 quarter anna) metallic coins of British India - as metal was in short supply during the Second World War. Another sign of this shortage was the replacement of the one-quarter anna British Indian coins with the much smaller 1 pice (hole coin - hole to save extra metal) during the war.  

Mengni was one of the smallest princely states in India, with an area of just 35 square miles and a population of ~3,600 as per the 1931 census.
