High grade silver 1 Riyal coin of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, minted in 1370 AH (Islamic calendar), corresponding to 1951 AD. The coin has been struck in the city of Mecca, in the name of King Al Saud. The obverse has a pattern of two crossed swords and the name of the ruler. The reverse has the value of the coin and a design flanked by two palm trees. 

These type of coins were first minted in 1354 AH - corresponding to 1935 AD. The weight of this coin is 11.6 grams and it has 91.7% silver - identical to the British Indian rupee on which it was based. Many countries in the Indian Ocean rim used Indian rupee as their currency, or had a currency identical to the Indian rupee for easier commerce.
