1 Centavo, Bolivia, Provisional, Over-print

1 Centavo (0.01 Boliviano), overprinted on a 10,000 Peso Boliviano. The Peso Boliviano was the currency of Bolivia from 1963-86, and was replaced in 1987 by the New Boliviano at the rate of 1 million to 1, following years of hyperinflation. Thus, the old 10,000 banknote became the new 0.01 unit. The obverse features the portrait of Marshal Andres de Santa Cruz, a South American statesman who had served as the President of a short-lived Federation of Peru and Bolivia in the 1820s & 30s. The reverse features the legislative palace.
