1 Mohru, Nepal, 1960

1 Mohru banknote of Nepal, issued in 1960. The obverse features a silver coin, an elephant, a temple in the middle and the watermark window to the right. The reverse features a kalash. The note is pinkish-red in color. This is the second issue of Nepal's 1 mohru banknote - and also carries the denomination 'rupee' on the reverse. These notes were printed by Thomas De La Rue of London. These notes were issued during the reign of King Mahendra (1955-1972). The King's portrait can be seen in the watermark window. 

Nepal started using paper money relatively recently - in 1956. Prior to that, all currency was metal coinage.
