1 Reichsmark, Germany, 1944
One Reichsmark banknote issued by Germany in 1944 for use of the German Army during the Second World War (1939-45). The obverse carries the denomination, along with clear instructions "Only for use in the Deutsche Wehrmacht" and detailed instructions on how these notes can be used. These notes were created for use by German military personnel operating in occupied countries such as Poland, France and Greece. These were not meant for civilian use, and had no value outside the authorized military channels - they did not carry the status of legal tender. The purpose of these notes was to control currency flow, and avoid inflation in occupied areas. Within Germany proper, these notes could be redeemed for regular Germany money at designated places.
