Edward VII, 1 Rupee, Mixed Years
Silver 1 Rupee coins in the name of Edward VII, from 1903-1910. These were the first coins to be minted with a new ruler after Queen Victoria (1840-1901), and these coins are a sharp contrast compared to the earlier 'Victoria Empress' coins - the older coins had a figure of the Queen wearing a regal robe and a crown, whereas this coin had a plain, unadorned bare-headed portrait of Edward. The change let many people to believe that the new coins don't have the portrait of the king but of a minor official - causing them to reject these coins. Subsequent coins - for instance George V rupees minted 1911 onward, reverted back to the pattern of Victorian coins.
These are high grade coins, with all the original features clearly visible and pronounced.
