1 Rupee, India, 1935, Graded PMG 64

  • Rs. 45,000.00

1 Rupee banknote of India, printed in 1935, bearing the image of a 1 rupee silver coin with the image of George V. These notes used to be printed in booklets of 25, from which they would be torn off - hence the perforation marks on the left side. The obverse carries the denomination in 8 Indian languages, apart from English. This includes Burmese - Burma was a part of British India till 1937. British Indian government reduced the minting of silver coins after the end of World War I, and stopped entirely in 1922 - relying on paper money instead. This was partly due to the rising price of silver, and partly due to the silver borrowed from the United States as war debt, which needed to be paid back. These notes are also called 'pistol notes' because of the pattern on the reverse - which resembles a hand-held firearm.

Size: 90 mm* 50 mm
