Ten Rupee banknote of Sri Lanka, printed in 1977. The obverse features King Parakkrama, or Parakrambahu I (1153-1186 AD), who unified Sri Lanka under a single kingdom after a long period of division. He is known for building a number of irrigation works, as well his patronage of Buddhism. The name Parakrambahu was adopted by many other subsequent rulers of Sri Lanka. The reverse features a statue. While the English name on this note says Ceylon, the Sinhalese is changed from Lanka to Sri Lanka - the name of the country was officially changed to Sri Lanka in 1972.
