100 Riyal banknote of Iran, printed in 1954, during the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. He was the second and the last ruler of the Pahlavi dynasty, which ruled Iran from 1925-1979, and was also the last King of Iran, replaced by the present Islamic government. The obverse carries a portrait of Reza Pahlavi, while the reverse carries an image of the Abadan refinery - the oldest and the largest oil processing facility in Iran. The refinery was made famous by the Abadan crisis - when Iran nationalized the oil industry, and Royal Navy blockaded Iran's Abadan port to stop its oil exports. The nationalization happened under then Prime Minister Mossadegh, who was removed via a CIA engineered coup in favor of Reza Pahlavi in 1954.

This is a rare banknote.
