100 Riyals, Iran, 1971, Seventh Portrait, Light Panel
100 Riyal banknote of Iran, printed from 1971-73, during the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. He was the second and the last ruler of the Pahlavi dynasty, which ruled Iran from 1925-1979, and was also the last King of Iran, replaced by the present Islamic government. The obverse carries a portrait of Reza Pahlavi, while the reverse carries an image of the Abadan refinery - the oldest and the largest oil processing facility in Iran. The refinery was made famous by the Abadan crisis - when Iran nationalized the oil industry, and Royal Navy blockaded Iran's Abadan port to stop its oil exports. The nationalization happened under then Prime Minister Mossadegh, who was removed via a CIA engineered coup in favor of Reza Pahlavi.
