2 & 10 Dram, Nagorno Karabakh
A set of 2 and 10 dram banknotes of Nagorno Karabakh - a region disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Nagorno Karabakh was a Christian majority region in Muslim majority Azerbaijan, and was self governed as the Republic of Artsakh. These banknotes were printed by the Government of Artsakh to raise awareness of their political situation. In 2023, Azerbaijan attacked the Republic of Artsakh and gained control over the territory, ending the Republic of Artsakh. The entire Armenian population of the region has since fled.
Both the banknotes feature the national coat of arms of the Republic of Artsakh. The 2 Dram note features the Gandzasar Cathedral of Saint of John the Baptist, while the 10 Dram note features Jesus holding the gospels with the Dadivank monastery in the background.
