20 Drachma, Greece, 1940

20 Drachma banknote of Kingdom of Greece, printed in 1940. The obverse has the denomination to the right, and the portrait of Neptune, the Greek God of Sea, to the left. The reverse features a view of the world famous Parthenon. The Kingdom of Greece was established in 1832 - after Greece gained independence from the Ottoman Empire, and lasted till 1973, with a break from 1924-1935 - when a Republic was proclaimed. During World War II, Greece was under occupation of Axis powers (1941-44).
