Half Rupee, Burma, Japanese Occupation, 1942

Half rupee banknote of Burma, issued during the Japanese occupation of Burma (1942-45) during the Second World War. This is Japanese Invasion Money, issued to replace the Indian rupee, which was the currency of Burma earlier. These notes lack any security features, and were printed in bulk - and remain common to this day. The obverse features the Ananda Temple in Bagan, Burma. The reverse carries the denomination, along with repetitive patterns (guilloches) - to prevent forgery. These notes ceased being legal tender after the Japanese were driven out of Burma.
