  • Rs. 2,700.00

Tibetan Ga-den silver tangka, minted during the era of Ganden Phodrang - the rule by Dalai Lamas. The obverse carries eight-spoked wheel surrounded by Tibetan characters within the petals of an eight-petalled lotus. The reverse has an ornate lotus design surrounded by Eight Buddhist auspicious symbols - a white parasol, a conch shell, a treasure vase, a victory banner, a dharma wheel, a pair of golden fish, an endless knot, and a lotus flower - within the petals of an eight-petalled lotus.

From 1642-1941, Tibet was a theocratic state ruled by the Dalai Lamas - specifically the 5th to the 14th Dalai Lama. The Ganden Phodrang government was established in 1642, when the Dalai Lama became the spiritual and temporal head of Tibet, and ended in 1951, when the Chinese invaded and annexed Tibet. The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, fled to India in 1959 and established a government in exile. The Dalai Lama is traditionally chosen through a process of reincarnation. After the death of a Dalai Lama, senior monks look for signs such as dreams and omens. Search parties are formed to look for a male child in the indicated region to identify the next Dalai Lama. The current Dalai Lama has declared that he may be reborn in a free country out of Chinese government control - The Chinese government has been trying to hijack the institutions of Tibet to cement its political control.
