5 Kori, Kutch, Pragmalji/Victoria, 1923 VS/1866 AD

  • Rs. 4,000.00

Silver 5 kori coin of the princely state of Kutch, issued in the name of Pragmalji II, the ruler of Kutch, and Empress Victoria. The first 5 kori was a machine-struck coin, issued in 1860 in the reign of Pragmalji. These coins were all minted shortly after, in 1866 AD, or 1923 Vikram Samvat (VS). The three emblems of Kutch - the trishul (trident), crescent and the katar (dagger) can all be seen on the obverse. The reverse has the name of Empress Victoria and the date as per the English calendar. The inscription on the obverse is in Devnagari script, while the reverse is in Urdu.

Since these were the first machine struck coins, die rotation errors are common.

This is a VERY RARE coin, with a rarity score of 86 on numista. See more here
